Does This Look Like A Ballet Dancer Getting 6 Years For Masterminding An Acid Attack?

LA Times: The Bolshoi Ballet dancer accused of organizing an acid attack on the company’s artistic director in January has been found guilty and sentenced to six years in prison. The decision, handed down Tuesday in a Moscow court, capped a lurid courtroom drama that exposed internal corruption in the storied ballet company.

Pavel Dmitrichenko had been accused of masterminding the assault on Bolshoi artistic director Sergei Filin in January. The acid attack left Filin with severe facial burns and damage to his eyesight. Prosecutors had sought a 10-year sentence for Dmitrichenko.

I have two problems with this story.  Number one is the generous use of the term mastermind.  This isn’t Danny Ocean and crew busting into a casino in broad daylight ripping off millions.  This is a Russian Twinkle Toes telling some guy to go chuck acid in another dude’s face.  Russian “plots” seem to have really gone down hill in terms of complexity since the end of The Cold War.

Number 2 is how the prosecution didn’t get the 10 years they were going after.  Check out this other excerpt from the story.

Prosecutors argued that Dmitrichenko was motivated by professional frustration regarding his career and that of his girlfriend, dancer Anzhelina Vorontsova. Dmitrichenko, 29, has maintained that while he had agreed to an assault on Filin, he was unaware that the assailant would use acid.

How do you not give this guy the max sentence just on principle? I thought being a whiner in Russia was already a mandatory 5-10? And that’s without throwing acid into the mix.  Lazily executed acid showers planned by whiney ballet dancers.  The pussification of Russia begins??
