Boston Isn’t Going To Like This

ababe  Where does one begin in making a list of the greatest hitters ever? Well, I put together a spreadsheet, and using my very special grading system that I only just invented, I came up with a Top 10 list of hitters.  Now remember, we’re just talking about hitting here. So this comes down to the players who, though a combination of batting skill, patience, power and the ability to not make outs, are the best who ever lived. There’s no way you can fairly rank the 10 best. But nobody said this would be fair. Here’s the list:

  1. Babe Ruth
  2. Ted Williams
  3. Barry Bonds
  4. Lou Gehrig
  5. Rogers Hornsby
  6. Stan Musial
  7. Albert Pujols
  8. Jimmie Foxx
  9. Ty Cobb
  10. Mickey Mantle

You want to see anyone from Boston lose it?  Just tell them Ted Williams isn’t the greatest hitter of all time, it’s like you just punched their mother.  The guy who made this list is  Joe Posnanski and you can bet he’s not gonna be a very popular guy in beantown.  It always amazes me how vigorously Bostonians defend Williams as the greatest hitter since for the better part of the last 70 years they absolutly hated the guy.  Booing him in Fenway, calling him a draft dodger, calling him a deadbeat dad, the list goes on.  Now since they won a couple titles they are trying to rewrite history by honoring guys like Ted Williams and Bill Buckner (don’t get me started on that bullshit) when they absolutly trashed these players for years.  But that’s the way it goes in Boston, fair weather fans with short memories and no sense of history.  For most fans of Boston sports teams they think the world was created in 2000.  Now a guy that they sold for scraps to The Yankees is ranked above ol Teddy Ballgame in some meaningless list, but you know someone from Boston is going to bite and whine about it.

  3. The_Creator Says:

there are a lot of people you can add to this bogus list…this guy apparently has some formula that I didn’t take the time to look at…but Pujols should not be on any list like this yet

  4. DevilsYanksJets Says:

hank aaron great call i just assumed he was on this list.. hes a god.. have his rookie card

  5. DevilsYanksJets Says:

btw mickey mantle though I love isnt a top 10 of all time.. if he was sober all the time maybe

  6. The_Creator Says:

looks like this guy really valued the HR for this list…which is maybe why rose isn’t on it

  7. frank Says:

rose was beyond overrated. id even have mantle higher on the list…

Ranking hitters through different era’s (or at all) is a giant waste of time. All they ulitmetly prove is the creator’s own bias. Cases can be made for both Ruth and Williams.

As for your commentary on the relationship between Williams and the city of Boston, they are all valid points… 40 years ago. Boston is not in a time continuum.
